EU Innovations That Transform Food Systems

Lector: Simon Srnka

This course provides an inspiring overview of European projects that successfully address food sustainability, food waste reduction, agri-food innovation, and rural development. Through concrete examples and real project outcomes, it demonstrates how EU-funded initiatives can drive behavioural change, support local communities, and strengthen connections between education, agriculture, gastronomy, and tourism.

The session highlights two exemplary Erasmus+ initiatives: FOODCOMP, focused on food waste prevention and environmental education, and AGATA, which revitalises rural regions through gastronomy, entrepreneurship, and the innovative “Center of Taste” model. Participants learn how these projects tackled major societal challenges—such as food waste, lack of consumer awareness, and limited rural opportunities—by combining digital tools, citizen science, community engagement, and cross-sector collaboration.
